In an effort to combat trying economic times, the Vernon Town Council held a public hearing on an ordinance that would create a town board, to be known as the Energy Improvement District.
Currently, Vernon spends about $2.3 million on electricity. McCoy touted the idea of fuel cells. “You get less pollution,” he said, “clean energy benefits, better air quality control , 60 percent less CO2, and you can use the heat produced by the cells.” “There are other ways to make things more efficient,” said McCoy, “but this [the fuel cell] is a way to reduce costs.”
